History of the 'Friends of German Culture'...
Friends of German Culture was organized 1977.
- Promoted social, cultural and entertainment opportunities for members and other residents interested in German language and culture.
- Maintained relations with Bundeswehr members stationed in Huntsville and assist in the planning and promotion of events of mutual interest.
- Maintained relations with the German Club of the University of Alabama in Huntsville and assist in the planning and promotion of events of mutual interest.
- Assisted the Huntsville/Madison County Council for International Visitors in programs requiring briefings and/or hospitality for official guests from German-speaking nations.
- Assisted local universities, public and private school systems, public libraries, arts councils and other organizations in programs of mutual interest.
- Assisted the Alabama Space and Rocket Center, the Industrial Development Association, the Chamber of Commerce, the Convention and Visitors Bureau and other organizations in programs requiring the linguistic and/or other expertise available among members of the organization.
- Maintained relations with the Atlanta-based Consul General of the Federal Republic of Germany, the Goethe Institute (German Cultural Center) and the German-American Chamber of Commerce.
- Acted as regional catalyst for the promotion of improved understanding and relations between citizens of the United States and the Federal Republic of Germany.
