Awards bought:
8 dictionaries from Books A Million@ $59.49 (We have 4 left over )
8 gift cards to Café Berlin/Ol’Heidelberg for $10 each
2 gift certificates to Deutsche Kueche for $10 each

We also gave a map of Germany and pins from German/Alabama Partnership to students of lower levels who received dictionaries. All received Award Certificates.

The Friends of German Culture would like to invite all Members, Friends, and Guests to a Special Function at the U.S. Space and Rocket Center (Apologize for late mailing but just received this information)

Time: 4:30 PM to 7:30 PM

Place: U.S. Space and Rocket Center, Galaxy Dining Room.

Program: The Friends of German Culture and the International Services Council of Alabama will be co- hosting a dinner for a German delegation from various German Media and Foreign Affairs Organizations. The group has been invited to the United States under the auspices of the U.S. Department of State’s International Visitor Leadership Program. The visitors are as follows: Ms. Betina Klein-Current Affairs Editor, Deutschlandfunk; Ms.Judith Schwethelm-Program Officer, Friedrich Ebert Foundation, Berlin; Ms. Daniela Karen Vates-Foreign Affairs Reporter, Berliner Zeitung; Dr. Canan Atilga-Coordinator, European Policy, Konrad Adenauer Foundation; Mr.Chokri Chebbi-Freelance, Arabic Section, Deutsche Welle; Mr. Stefan Ulrich Nieman-Head Current Affairs Desk, North German Television (NDR), Hamburg; Mr. Johannes Vogel-National Chairman, Junge Liberale (Youth Organization), Free Democratic Party (FDP). The group is accompanied by two U.S. Interpreters, Ms Ericka Konuk and Ms. Irmgard Smadi.

Menu: Choice of Grilled Boneless Chicken Breast or Roast Sirloin of Beef. The meal will include: Garlic Toast, Tossed Green Salad, Twice Baked Potato, Buttered Parsley Carrots and, Viennese Walnut Torte dessert, Ice Tea & Water. Cash bar with wine and beer available.

RSVP: Please send your check (Cost for entrees: Chicken is $ 18.00 and Beef is $ 20.00) to Walter Jacobi no later than 22 February 2007. Also indicate selection of Chicken or Beef for your entrée with remittance of your check. Cost of meal includes: gratuities, facility cost, technical support, cash bar setup and bartender.

Note: If your Friends of German Culture DUES have not been paid for 2007, look at your address label which indicates last year paid. Please include a check for your DUES to Walter Jacobi (Students-$ 6.00, Single- $ 8.00, Couples $ 14.00, and Corporate-$ 15.00) Members that have already paid their DUES for 2005 at the old rate (single $6.00, couples $12.00, and corporate $12.00) are not required to send additional money to make up the difference.

Additional Information: The Westlawn Baptist Church will be hosting the” Flying Melody” a German Handbell Choir from Schwingbach Germany. The Choir Group consists of 15 youth, 12 girls, 3 boys and 7 adults. The Hand Bell Choir performance will be on April 8, 2007 at 6:30 or 7:00 PM. If you are interested in attending, please contact Westlawn Baptist Church for correct time.
