Dear Oldtimers :
The MSFC Director Dave King has agreed to feature at the next “Wernher von Braun Forum” a panel of Peenemuende Oldtimers. It is planned to partner these panelists with present MSFC employees who perform similar assignments at this time. A moderator will chair the panel. The Space and Rocket Center offers suitable facilities for such a public discussion. The plan calls for a date of May 11, 2006 which permits broadcasting of the program into local schools.
MSFC has appointed Shar Hendricks to coordinate the planning activities. His secretary is Marcia Cobun (544-1715 or cell 682-0941). Ed Buckbee (534-4929) has also offered his services and is a member of the planning team. He intends to invite an astronaut for this meeting. Plans include video recordings relating a more detailed history of all Oldtimers. A condensed version of all these tapes will be used in connection with the panel discussion.
Panel remarks of the Old¬timers should be limited to about 10 minutes, and should start with their assignments in Peenemuende, include the years in Fort Bliss, Texas, as well as the U.S. Army years at Redstone Arsenal, and, of course, their role in the Saturn Program. Remarks should also include thoughts of the initiative to return to the Moon and to travel to Mars and Beyond.
Transportation can be arranged for the panel meeting as well as for the taping sessions. I hope to hear from you by telephone about your participation in these activities so that we can firm up our detailed plans.
We would especially like to invite the living widows of the Old-timers to this event. Function mailings to the Friends of German Culture membership will go out in late March or early April.
With my best regards
Yours, sincerely
Konrad K. Dannenberg
Mark 11 May on your calendars and make plans to attend the Oldtimers Panel Meeting in Huntsville, AL, at the Space and Rocket Ctr. Details are still being worked out and will be relayed to you as they become available. Dr Dannenberg and I will work to arrange a dinner on Friday evening, 12 May at the Space and Rocket Ctr.
Please start responding to me at heidicollier@comcast.net if there is a chance you're interested in attending either the 11 May event, the 12 May dinner or both. This way we can get an idea of how many to make preparations for.
Thanks,
Heidi Weber Collier
